After the sudden death of her beloved older sister, thirteen-year-old Nico finds her life on New England's idyllic Mirror Lake irrevocably altered. Left alone to grope toward understanding, she falls into a seductive, dangerous relationship with her sister's boyfriend. Over one haunted summer, Nico faces that life-changing moment when children realize their parents can no longer help them as she experiences the mystery of loss and recovery. Still, for all the darkness at its heart, Goldengrove is radiant with the lightness of summer and charged by the restless sexual tension of adolescence.

Panpan

Moody, dark & desperate, this is the story of losing a sibling while at the impressionable & angsty age of 13. Mom pops pills & Dad buries himself in work leaving Nico alone to cope with the loss of her sister & idol. She turns to her sister's boyfriend, the only one she thinks can understand her. Maybe its my own place in life, 50 y/o teacher prepping to return to school, but I found reading (previewing for my librarian) this YA a grind.

A beautiful novel about how the death of her older sister affects 13-year-old Nico. For such a sad topic, Prose‘s novel was a joy to read. We follow Nico through a hot summer as she drifts away from her parents and towards adulthood. Just lovely. #covid19readathon

In beautiful Miami for our 5th wedding anniversary, and I'm reading about a (fictional!) teenager's tragic death and the grief that ensues for the people that loved her...classic pick, Lauren! 😜
