Ultimately, it is a solid story, just not a great horror story. Lots of local lore, history and, weather; but despite the presence of tornadoes, ghosts and other supernatural elements, it just isn't very creepy.

🎧 Robert Petkoff, the audiobook narrator was fine, too! But again, nothing extra... though this would be a *great* audiobook for a road trip to Indiana!

🎧 For some reason I thought this was a mystery thriller, but it seems to a have a supernatural/horror bent to it!

A failed filmmaker heads to Indiana to check out the West Baden hotel & casino— the place where the enigmatic subject of his next film assignment ostensibly grew up in.

Robert Petkoff sounds oddly younger, smoother and blander than I recall him being on other audiobooks; but not a deal breaker.

Nope. Nada. Don‘t - can‘t - buy into this one. I do not recommend it. The writing is very good. But the magic, which is the spine of the novel, did not work for me. (As a rule, I don‘t review books that I don‘t enjoy, but this one is old. I don‘t think my review will hurt any book sales. Read him! Just not this one.)

At the amazing West Baden Springs Hotel on which the fictional hotel in this book is based. I bought a copy of this book at the hotel because I am dorky and like buying a book that has a connection to a place - if that makes sense.

DivineDiana It makes perfect sense! Not dorky at all! 🙂 7y

Fun Friday Photo!! I collect bookmarks like I collect books. They even have their own special home inside a decorative box on my library shelf when not in use. 😍

SusanInTiburon They make the best souvenirs, don't they? 9y
Vblancsbooks Cute! Good idea about the box! 9y
