pickWell written tale of mystery archeologist, Planetary, seeking to keep the world weird and wonderful. Ellis blends in his own takes on pulp heroes like Doc Savage, the monsters from Japanese movies, even his own version of the Fantastic Four. Witty and full of pop culture easter eggs. John Cassaday's art is amazing. 4 💥💥💥💥 out of 5.
pickSometimes you can tell a book's special right from the first issue. PLANETARY is about superpowered archaeologists who excavate genre tropes as part of their quest to uncover the secret history of the twentieth century. Every mystery they solve leads to a dozen more questions, and everyone's hiding crucial bits of the puzzle. It's awesome stuff, especially if you know at least a little comics and/or pulp fiction history. #comics
Today I drove in BC for the first time (the roundabouts were a lot less scary than I expected), ate Japanese food, saw BLACK PANTHER (it was great!), and went to a library where books CHECK THEMSELVES IN as you feed them through the return slot. I felt like I was still in Wakanda.
And I got PLANETARY, which I've wanted to read more of for ages, and SPIDER-MAN so I'll finally be caught up on the Marvel movies. #comics
