Last Bus to Everland
Last Bus to Everland | Sophie Cameron
6 posts | 8 read | 16 to read
Brody Fair feels like nobody gets him: not his overworked parents, not his genius older brother, and definitely not the girls in the projects set on making his life miserable. Then he meets Nico, an art student who takes Brody to Everland, a knock-off Narnia" that opens its door at 11:21pm each Thursday for Nico and his band of present-day misfits and miscreants. Here Brody finds his tribe and a weekly respite from a world where he feels out of place. But when the doors to Everland begin to disappear, Brody is forced to make a decision: He can say goodbye to Everland and to Nico, or stay there and risk never seeing his family again.

Wow. This was... a book. I liked it at first, but then it got really really sad. And not like that fun to read sad, just straight up depressing. I only read it fast because I wanted to be done with it and I was afraid I‘d get into a reading slump. 2.25⭐️

“I felt that change. I felt it coming. I sensed it with the change in the sky and the running of the stags. And I don‘t think we‘ve seen the end of it”

LGBT! I'm escaping to lots of magical worlds through doors lately and this is one of them. My only wish is for a sequel that expands the idea of Everland, as some parts were not explained.

Geenie What is LGBT? 5y
Vee_Bookish @Geenie Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender etc. In this case a lot of the characters are gay. 🏳️‍🌈 5y

I read that this had elements that are comparable to Narnia, which drew me to it. There is a door that appears once a week that leads to Everland where misfits and outcasts find acceptance and an escape from the sadness in their lives.
The characters deal mental illness, family dynamics, and coming to accept themselves.
A part of the book made me think of my classmate who committed suicide earlier this year and what he was possibly thinking..😓
