4 posts | 6 read | 1 to read
Tara Fraser leaves London to start a new life in a Cumbrian town selected at random. She plans to obliterate her past, which contains a shocking event that had serious consequences, by becoming a completely different personality from her previous volatile self. She is going to be quiet, even dull, and very private. But one of her new neighbours, Nancy, is intrigued by her. She wants to become her friend. Equally determined not to be discarded are three old friends who Tara feels let her down when she most needed them. Tara fights to keep herself to herself, but can she do it? And does she really want to? Slowly, reluctantly, she discovers the dangers of trying to suppress the past and reject other people.

Panpan

This is one of those books where you get to the end and wonder what the point was, although I do now know how to measure a cow but how this even related to the story line I have no idea. Meet Sarah, who was Tara, your spend 300 pages together and leave her with a ton of questions still having no idea who she really is or what she did. A bizarre book that makes you want to wear a grey jumper. Not the best start to 2019 Reading!

Pickpick

I adore Margaret Forster. I've read most of her books. This one took me a day and a half whilst travelling! I found myself liking the female lead, then less so. which I think was the intention. I was quite surprised that it was based in current times, or thereabouts as the older female seemed more of the seventies in her understanding of modern life.

Mehso-so

Slow moving book build on the characters, but interesting story about Sara/Tara trying to make a new start in life. The best part for me was depiction of a elderly women Nancy. I would love to drink tea with her and give her a hug. It's well written book, but with strange end.
