Very cute manga brushing the theme of homosexuality in Japan: stereotypes, acceptance, prejudices, etc.

Daisy-May and I started rereading Vol 2 of MY BROTHER‘S HUSBAND during a truly excellent thunderstorm. I love this manga so much. It‘s a sweet, unconventional family story (divorced but friendly parents; adorable kid; gay Canadian uncle) and a realistic look at how one man begins to recognize and dismantle his own homophobia.

My February #bookspin (a “library pick”) was the beautiful conclusion to My Brother‘s Husband. Mike‘s visit with Yaichi & Kana comes to an end, but they will never forget one another. Beautiful to see how Yaichi evolves throughout Mike‘s visit.

I'm glad I read the two volumes back to back as they are a continuous story. Really enjoyed it!

Yaichi's character development continues and Mike does some touristy stuff. Mike meets a closeted high-school buddy of Ryoji's.

Not quite up to the standard of Volume 1. The layout was less pleasing somehow. And definitely more of a MESSAGE book. Hovering between a so-so and a pick but I will go with a pick

I liked this even more than the first volume. Yaichi really confronts his own homophobia and comes to terms with how he treated his brother after he came out. And even if he doesn‘t quite meet up to his own ideas of how to confront others‘ homophobia, he still makes great strides. Plus, Kana is just the best. (And the art lingers less over Mike‘s anatomy, which is nice.)

I hope to finish My Brother‘s Husband today. I picked up my second ILL for Anatomy and Physiology yesterday, so if I can finish that this week (just a few chapters to go), then I will.

Kana is so sweet!

I‘m having a hard time keeping up with my library books, so I wasn‘t going to get any more. But a graphic novel doesn‘t really count… right? I remember volume 1 being a quick read so this should be too!

Oh, the FEELS. So, so, so many feels. I‘m sorry it had to end.

This is volume two of this two-part series. I loved how Yaichi continues to grow in this volume. And I shed many a tear as the book drew to an end.

What an absolute pleasure this series was to read.

Volume 2 is just as delightful as volume 1 😁🌈

A great continuation to volume one. These graphic novels have been an extremely interesting look at a less then traditional family structure In japan.

Volume 2 continues the story directly from Volume 1, still during Mike's three week visit to Japan. The themes are overcoming stereotypes and building family, and it was a pleasure to read.
I was sent this by the publisher last year.

On its most basic level, this series is about how one Japanese man recognizes and begins to dismantle his homophobia when his brother's Canadian widower comes for a three-week visit. On top of that, Tagame also examines what grief looks like from different angles, how families form and maintain themselves, and the bonds kids nurture with the adults in their lives.

This story is just so good. So many lessons to be learned from both volumes. A ton of goodness throughout.

Going to try to end this Sunday with something light. I loved the first volume so much.

Why I love these books: it tells about how about being the family of someone gay, in a time and place where being out isn‘t easy. It‘s about family mending after a lose and lost time. Yes, I was mad at the MC for taking so long to fully get being gay isn‘t bad. But we have to remember for some people and places, it‘s not as simple as it seems. I tots tested up this whole volume.

I might have yelled “IM SO EXCITED” at work when my coworker brought it back. We both had the biggest hype for this book. Reasons to get into cataloging so I can call dibs first. 😂
