The Seclusion
The Seclusion | Jacqui Castle
6 posts | 5 read | 2 to read
While on a routine assignment scouting the viability of dwindling natural resources outside the massive urban centers most American citizens call home, Patricia ’Patch’ and her co-worker Rexx discover a relic from the past containing dangerous contraband—unedited books from before The Seclusion. These texts will spark an unquenchable thirst for the truth that sees Patch’s father arrested by the totalitarian Board. Evading her own arrest, Patch and Rexx set out across a ruined future United States, seeking some way to escape the only home they’ve ever known. Along the way, they learn about how their country came to be this way and fall in love. But their newfound knowledge may lead to their own demise.

Imagine not a wall between Mexico and America, but a wall around America itself? Welcome to the future where fear drives Americans behind a wall, where history is wiped clean and where not even your home is private without the powers that be watching you and controlling your every thought. I can‘t wait until book 2!

Brave New World, 1984, Fahrenheit 451, Slaughterhouse Five: Commentary on societal demise isn‘t new, but The Seclusion nods to the classics while discussing right now. This genre is my favorite so perhaps I‘m biased, but I loved this book.

The beginning is rich with detail that dissipates a bit as the author moves the plot to get to an end point, but I would‘ve happily read an additional 200 pgs for more detail! Eagerly awaiting a second book!

After a nice day of crocheting at the library with friends, where one of my friends gifted me with some awesome Harry Potter coasters, it‘s time to relax with a good book and weaving in some ends. 🧶

Did I say relax? I meant freak out over these stupid crochet patches and what‘s going to happen to the characters in the book! 😂😂😂

I'm not sure why, but after following this seemingly forever on Inkshares, and really looking forward to reading it, I had trouble making myself actually do it. The story was interesting enough, very timely, and thought-provoking. For whatever reason, it didn't hook me, but in this case I think it was me, not the book. I'm still giving it a pick.

LittlePixels @AJBowers Thanks! I purposely packed this book when I went on holiday in the mountains. It seemed the perfect place for a photo shoot for this particular title. 😉😄 6y

As a furloughed federal employee, this book hits way too close to home right now. I can‘t help thinking this is the future that awaits a society willing to wall themselves off to the outside world under the guise of ‘protection‘. I‘m only a third through, but so far this book is an interesting mix of Fahrenheit 451, 1984, and Young Adult Dystopian. I‘m curious to continue but also scared to complete this one!

I've been following this book since its early days on InkShares, and it finally made its way to the top of my TBR. I'm really enjoying it! I'm not very far in, but so far it feels like a near future version of 1984. #tooclosetohome 😱 #currentread
