Although dated now, I found this book fascinating. Does becoming an empowered woman mean basically being...a man? And what does that even mean? Is there a point to where sex positivity simply turns into a woman using her body as a kind of commerce and notching up her bedpost? I don't know, but the perspective is food for thought.

A really interesting look into our culture of sexual objectification of women. The part about SF lesbian culture was particularly interesting because it‘s not a perspective I‘ve read before. #nonfiction #feminism

"...just because we are post doesn't automatically mean we are feminists. There is a widespread assumption that simply because my generation of women has the good fortune to live in a world touched by the feminist movement, that means everything we do is radically imbued with its agenda."

Though I'm a decade late reading this, I bought it 2 mins after finishing #therulesdonotapply! Enjoying so far, tho it's probably less timely in 2017 than 2005

Riveted_Reader_Melissa So odd and sad that 2005 was a decade too late. But I had similar deja vu feeling when I read Big Girls don't Cry about the 2007/08 election season. 8y

This book does not have any scientific background, nevertheless many of the ideas exposed by the author have something in common with the concept of "post-feminist sensibility" brought by Gill in Gender and the Media. Overall, Levy's book is an interesting read.
