Filth: A Novel | 
pickWell this was dark. Bruce Robertson might be the most unpleasant protagonist I've ever read, and while you get some context as to why he's the way he is as the novel unfolds, it doesn't make him any less repulsive. I thought the weird formatting with the tapeworm interrupting the narrative was an odd gimmick at first but it ends up being a powerful device. Excellent writing but not an easy read.

I've struggled with this one but then i thought that the word 'filth' does lend itself to soundwise to grubbiness and things generally unpleasant - the 'hero' of this book is a horrible character but whilst at the end of reading i felt like a shower, it was a cutting satire of certain parts of society and i gave it 4*

I watched the film without reading the book (I know, don't judge me). There's loads of coke in the film so I assume there's loads in the book. It is by Irvine Welsh, after all.
