Mehso-so

The book description lead me to believe there would be more exposition as the author waxed lyrical about her love of cooking & desire to save recipes from being lost- I was especially looking forward to hearing how she chose these particular recipes to include- but that isn't what this is. There ARE pages at the beginning where she talks about the evils of fast food & the benefits of cooking for oneself but after that this is simply a cookbook.

SamAnne Maybe some recipes are meant to be lost…oatmeal soup for one! 😂😂😂 3y
bookandbedandtea @SamAnne Absolutely! That was the weirdest recipe I saw but none of the others were particularly enticing. 3y
bookandbedandtea @TheAromaofBooks Sarah, I forgot to mention this was my #DoubleSpin for August 🙂 3y
TheAromaofBooks Your description of this book reminds me of this guy on TikTok - tiktok.com/@bdylanhollis - who frequently cooks obscure recipes from old cookbooks 😂 (edited) 3y

bookandbedandtea @SamAnne That was my reaction too! 😂 3y
SamAnne @bookandbedandtea I‘m a lover of old school recipes, esp. ones from frugal times making do with what‘s available in creative ways. But nope. Nope nope nope. (edited) 3y

In which Marion Cunningham - quite rightly- bemoans the loss of cooking skills and family dinners in today‘s busy, busy society. We always had family dinners, and often family lunches, too, when I was growing up. Until quite recently, as TTGg is off to college, we had family dinners too. The remaining 3 of us need to get back to eating dinner together on a much more regular basis.

Aimeesue Also: I should not read cookbooks right before mealtime. They always make me want things I don‘t have the ingredients for! 6y
Jess_Read_This I‘m so guilty reading cookbooks or books with a food theme before dinner time and getting inspired... then having a single ingredient to make my inspirations! I‘m glad I‘m not alone in this. 😆 6y
Aimeesue @Jess_Read_This To be fair, a lunch like yogurt with fresh fruit has its place, and is perfectly delicious, but not right after I've been reading about Tandoori chicken or stuffed artichokes. 😄 6y
