A Book that educates, changes the perspectives of troubled youth and heals the souls of the abused... Quotes: "My mother was already an abandoned soul, a misguided young woman who would subconsciously put herself into situations that starved her soul. The worst feeling in the world is to love someone who cannot love you back, to care about someone who can only care about themselves." "But what happens to the girl with no positive parental examples? What happens to the girl with the cold mother who conditioned herself to bury her emotions? And what happens to the girl with the father who is an example of who not to marry?" "Actions are powerful, but it's important to acknowledge that so are emotions. Emotional abuse can be the most painful thing a person can endure because it's abuse of your soul and mind." "OCD became my superpower. It taught me how to tie my shoe, spell, sing, draw, and cook - my secret weapon no one else knew about." "With every acting job I got, I was the best thing that happened to her. And whenever an audition didn't go well, I was a disgrace. I began to feel like nothing more than a mechanical object or doll that was required to use my emotions for acting jobs alone. It was shameful to show them anywhere else." "Not every hurt kid is bad, and not every bad kid is hurt. Like everyone else on the planet, they're individuals. And we need to take our time identifying who is who, and what is what, for each and every one of them who appears to be struggling with life." "My pregnancy was a horrible experience. I was sad the majority of the time, confused and lost, with my hopes at love absolutely shattered." "It's painful living life by one golden rule. To trust no one. Because no one will care about you; they may act like it...But no one will love you. You are as valuable as what you can offer, and when your spark goes out in this ever-changing business ran by an ever-changing society, selling your soul may be the only thing that may revive your opportunities." "Abusers - they'll manipulate and they'll lie to you. And when you no longer give them that power, they'll try to manipulate your family or the people close to you instead. Abusers want everyone to hate you just as much as they do. It's sick. Their lack of morals and integrity is sick. The amount of hate they harbor in their hearts is sick, as are their psychopathic or sociopathic traits." "I would go upstairs with a fifth of liquor in my hand and lock myself up in my tiny room that could barely fit my bed. My bottle and my music became my vacation away from the realities of my pain as if I was living in my own country song. I would drink so much, I'd get sick. I would just sit on my floor and cry. I was so depressed, and inside, I felt so lonely and incomplete. I drank to escape every little bit of pain I had left to feel." -LaTasha "Tacha B." Braxton Dark Chains is an inspirational and spiritual book about a misguided young girl who struggles to survive mental, emotional, and physical abuse. Plagued by decades of pain, mental illness and generational curses. She enters a life without God at a young age, and finds herself infatuated with the idea of escaping and never returning to the abusive life she once was subjected, manipulated and conditioned to living in.

A heart wrenching but optimistic memoir about a young woman trapped in a cycle of abuse & poor choices stemming from the ripples of previous generations. Sometimes I was so frustrated with her choices & logic. I wanted to scream at her for seeking men to solve her problems or for returning to abusers instead of fighting back. My heart broke for her. The writing style was enchanting, and I think she has a gift with storytelling.

“Love is the creator of a positive environment.”

I‘m enjoying this autobiography right now. Highlighted several passages that resonate with me. Such a sad story but written in a lovely way. I‘m hopeful for the light at the end of the tunnel & hope she gets her happy ending.

Devastating. That's what trauma from abuse and neglect is: devastating. Braxton's narrative of her life filled with emotional and physical neglect and abuse is heart-wrenching. You want to reach into the pages and pull out that sad, lonely girl and just hug her.
