Square
Square | Mac Barnett
8 posts | 11 read | 1 to read
The beguiling second entry in the innovative shape trilogy by multi-award-winning, New York Times best-selling duo Mac Barnett and Jon Klassen. This book is about Square. Square spends every day taking blocks from a pile below the ground to a pile above the ground. This book is also about Square's friend Circle. Circle thinks Square is an artistic genius. But is he really? With the second story in a trilogy of tales about Triangle, Square, and Circle, Mac Barnett and Jon Klassen nudge readers toward a more well-rounded way of looking at things. Understated and striking in its simplicity, this funny, thoughtful offering from two of today's most talented picture-book creators emphasizes the importance of keeping your eyes -- and your mind -- open to wonder where others see only rubble and rocks.

Unpopular opinion but not really a fan. Think my daughter was a bit young for it. She likes their hat book though.

So this is my belated wrap-up of #NutsInMay

I read for 31,5hrs of the 35hrs I was hoping for. A little less than what I hoped, but I‘m happy about what I read during those hrs.

Finished The Overstory, so that‘s almost 600p
I read the book by Høvring, with a title that‘s hard to translate, 128p
I read the tagged children‘s picture book
I listened to somewhere between 6 and 8 hrs of The Hanging Girl
I started on Høyer and read the first 30p

Andrew65 That‘s fantastic, well done. 🍾🥂🥳👏👏👏🙌😊😁 Thanks for playing along. 5y

Short. Simple. Funny.

Perfect for checking if your child understands humor that‘s not always slap stick!

Square just moves blocks into a pile. But when Circle sees one his blocks, he assumes Square sculpted it to represent himself!

Square must be a genius!!

Maybe not...

This was interesting. Square pushes blocks everyday. Circle thinks he sculpts them, and now wants Square to sculpt them. What will square do. I‘m not sure what the message of this book is, or even if it is meant to have a message, but I enjoyed it none-the-less.

DAY 17: I‘ll always love these babies no matter what. They love each other a whole lot, too. 💚 Here, big brother is reading to little brother while twinning (even though they are not twins, but are the same size 😆) in their “Reading Powers Imagination” shirts.

I loved this. Just as delightful as its predecessor, and without retreading the same story. Barnett‘s story is whimsical and sweet, and Klassen's artwork complements it perfectly. And we get to see an all new side of Square. Definitely recommended!
