Child of Faerie, Child of Earth
Child of Faerie, Child of Earth | Jane Yolen, Jane Dyer
1 post | 1 read | 5 to read
So begins Jane Yolen's lyrical story of an unusual friendship. According to certain tales, faeries leave the underworld once a year to join in a faerie ring beneath the moonlight. On this magical night, a faerie boy meets a child of earth and the two become friends forever. Luminous paintings by award-winning artist Jane Dyer add to the magic.

This is a sweet, little story about a human girl and a faerie boy who form a fast friendship one night. He takes her under the hill to dance and feast with the faeries in their glittering court and then asks her to stay, which she declines. She takes him to her farm to take care of the animals and to work the land and asks him to stay, which he declines. But they stay friends throughout their lives, visiting each other‘s home from time to time.

Reggie This sounds lovely and a little sad. 7y
readinginthedark @Reggie I could see that. The book presents it in a happy way, though. Their other friends are amazed at their ability to stay friends for so long, and both of them are happier living in their own homes and just visiting. It‘s a picture book, so it doesn‘t give the lost lover vibe or anything. 7y
Suet624 This sounds just like what I want in my life. A fairy man who visits but enjoys his own place. 😀 7y
