Truth is always stranger than fiction...In the summer of 1919, over a span of 12 days, Chicago had to deal with a burning blimp which crashed through the roof of a bank killing 13 (America‘s first air disaster), an incident on a beach which sparked violent race riots, the disappearance of a 6 year-old girl (a neighbor eventually admitted killing her), & transit workers who threatened to strike. Interesting, engaging read—fascinating history.
Living in Chicago myself, 12 days back in July of 1919 proves that not much changes in Chicago. Corrupt politicians, missing/murdered children, race riots, strikes, etc. And, the first air disaster in Chicago in 1919, killed a distant relative of mine. Sobering but educational.
