panThis could've been an adorable cozy mystery with some heavier issues at its heart, but the writing is TERRIBLE. The finished product reads like a slapdash first draft, rife with needless repetition, plenty of, "As you know, Bob," and the worst dialogue tags I've encountered in many a year. (Nobody SAYS anything. They all laugh or smile it.) I only finished it because I paid $0.99 for the series omnibus and dammit, I was gonna get my money's worth.
