A Taste For Death
A Taste For Death | P. D. James
8 posts | 18 read | 5 to read
Two men lie dead in the vestry of a London church, their throats cut with brutal precision. One is Sir Paul Berowne, rich, cultivated and elegant; the other is an alcoholic vagrant. Challenged with the investigation of a crime that appears to have endless motives, Adam Dalgliesh explores the sinister web spun around a half-burnt diary and a violet-eyed widow who is pregnant and full of malice--all the while hoping to fill the gap of logic that joined these two disparate men in death... From the Trade Paperback edition.

Always enjoy looking over Adam Dalgliesh‘s shoulder as he investigates. His calmness and empathy make a wonderful contrast to whatever evil he‘s investigating.

Went for a hike and then convinced my hiking buddies to stop at this cute used bookstore, Braveheart Books. I could‘ve spent my time exploring but lunch was calling…

I am posting one book per day from my extensive to-be-read collection. No description or reason for wanting to read the book. Some are old and some will be new. Don't judge me - I have a lot of books.

Lucy_Anywhere This is my reading group‘s pick for August - apparently it‘s the author‘s centenary this month! 4y

A mystery with writing that feels classic but with up-to-date concerns -- at least to 1986, when this book was published. And the murders are just the right amount of gory. This is my favourite of the 3 PD Jameses I've read so far.

I found this book to be a bit drawn out for my liking but I loved how deeply the author delved into the characters and their personalities. It was easy to see how things ended as they did and how the murders came to be. Very original and very real. She really gets into the psychology of people.
