The Kiss Murder
The Kiss Murder: A HOP-CIKI-YAYA Thriller | Mehmet Murat Somer
4 posts | 4 read | 1 reading
Late one night, our glamour-puss nightclub manager receives a visit from Buse. For many years, Buse has kept letters and photos of a compromising nature, from a former relationship with a powerful lover. But her apartment has been ransacked and Buse worries about the consequences. Being an obliging sort, our detective agrees to help out, but what initially appears to be a personal favour turns out to have repercussions that run much deeper. When the web of intrigue reveals that an arch-conservative politician and maybe even the Mafia are involved, it's time for our private eye to send out an urgent SOS via the underground Istanbul grapevine.

Pickpick

Read for June‘s #DiverseCozy pick.
It‘s a soft pick for me. I liked the MC, a transvestite in Istanbul, Turkey which is unique & appealing. I struggled a bit with both the translation which felt awkward & choppy & the references to people, history & current events that I know nothing about & were not explained well. The end of my Kindle did include a glossary which would have been helpful in the beginning (I should have looked for it.) Also, ⬇️

DebinHawaii …the “mystery” fell a bit flat & our MC didn‘t seem all that interested in actually solving it to me. There are two more books in this series but unless I were to come across them discounted, I don‘t think I‘ll try to read them & continue with it. Still, an interesting read that I am happy to have been exposed to. #SeriesLove2023 (edited) 1y

Without naming names, Buse tells the owner of the transvestite night club where she hangs out that she still has letters and photos from a youthful liaison with an important public figure who very much wants the evidence to disappear. The next day, Buse is murdered but the police are uninterested, so the only way to find the murderer is to find the letters and photos.

rwmg A fascinating narrator and some very funny scenes in this thriller set in an interesting milieu. Unfortunately the font in this ebook was unable to cope with Turkish diacritics, which was distracting at times. 3y

Book 1 of the Turkish Delight mystery series. Interesting story, but not much of a mystery!
