Brodie was a good dog. And good dogs go to heaven.Except Brodie can't move on. Not just yet. As wonderful as his glimpse of the afterlife is, he can't forget the boy he left behind. The boy he loved, and who loved him in return. The boy who's still in danger. So Brodie breaks the rules of heaven. He returns to Earth as a spirit. With the help of two other lost souls -- lovable pitbull Tuck and surly housecat Patsy -- he is determined to find his boy and to save him. Even if it costs him paradise. Even if he loses his eternal soul.Because it's what a good dog would do.

This was an amazing book. I loved the message behind it and the way it was done was beautiful. Topics like this are important for kids to talk about and this book would really help

“Sometimes you have to leave to find your way back.“ I love this quote because it shows the true message of the story and how even when you are lost, you'll find your way back.

Speculative fiction - This story was published in 2018 and is a story about a dog named Brodie who goes on a journey after getting lost. This book fits into the book genre of speculative fiction because it explores themes that are not typical in everyday life such as animals that talk and explores the emotions of dogs. This was a great read and a great book for speculative fiction.

“Love doesn't stop when life does.“
This quote is my favorite because it offers a sense of hope and comfort, especially when dealing with themes of loss and grief. It suggests that even when someone is physically gone, the love they shared continues to influence and guide those left behind. It's a beautiful reminder that love is eternal, a comforting thought for both young readers and adults alike.

One particularly poignant moment in Good Dog is when Brodie makes the decision to leave the comfort and peace of the afterlife in order to return to the mortal world to save Aiden. This moment encapsulates the core of the book—the idea that love and loyalty can drive someone to make selfless decisions, even in the face of great personal risk.

It took awhile to get into this book but once it got going it was a great action-packed, dog-loving book. The cat in this story was the most accurate cat depiction I have read....😂

I looove dogs so very much, and maybe that is why I had this reaction...but did anyone find this book to be too dark and scary? I didn't really enjoy it as much as I thought I would because it seemed full of menacing unknown dangers. I prefer a little more of an upbeat vibe in my middle school book picks!

I really enjoyed this book! It reminded me of A Dog‘s Purpose. Me and my son had the pleasure of watching this little feisty pup, over the weekend. We were sad to say goodbye. Lots of laughs and smiles. Litsy, meet Montana ❤️🐶🐕

huntersmom1977 @rather_be_reading IKR!! She was so feisty! My sister brought her dachshund over and she kept chasing him and kept biting his butt lol. Yea sad to see her go tho 😞. Someone flew down from Nunavut and adopted her. I hope she‘s happy and well 6y

Another great story by Dan Gemeinhart. Narrated by a recently deceased loyal dog who is determined to return to earth and make sure "his boy" is safe, before he enters the afterlife. Thus begins Brodie's harrowing journey as he pieces together the murky and unsettling flashbacks that he hopes will lead him to his boy one last time before it's too late for him to go to Heaven.
