Written by a highly regarded expert on space travel and exploration, Allen Steele's Arkwright features the precision of hard science fiction with a compelling cast of characters. In the vein of classic authors such as Robert Heinlein, Isaac Asimov, and Arthur C. Clarke, Nathan Arkwright is a seminal author of the twentieth century. At the end of his life he becomes reclusive and cantankerous, refusing to appear before or interact with his legion of fans. Little did anyone know, Nathan was putting into motion his true, timeless legacy. Convinced that humanity cannot survive on Earth, his Arkwright Foundation dedicates itself to creating a colony on an Earth-like planet several light years distant. Fueled by Nathan's legacy, generations of Arkwrights are drawn together, and pulled apart, by the enormity of the task and weight of their name. This is classic, epic science fiction and engaging character-driven storytelling, which will appeal to devotees of the genre as well as fans of current major motion pictures such as Gravity and Interstellar.

How do you guys deal with having wishlists and tbr lists as long as your entire body or more?? There are so many books I want/plan to read and I‘m starting to get stressed about how to choose books to read next even when I‘m choosing from among books I already own. Any tips?? Anyone feel the same?????

Pamwurtzler Definitely. I‘m thinking of coming up with some criteria to purge my list of 700 books from my TBR. It‘s just a lot. 7y
knittedgnome I get 90% of my books as ebooks from the library so that really helps. I can only have so many holds at a time and if I run out before holds are done I check my tbr for ones that are available. 7y
Chellebearss I give myself time to not worry about challenges and just pick something fun off my shelves. My TBR of books I own is out of control though so I do need to stop borrowing, but I won‘t lol 7y

rwmg I had my TBR pile under some sort of control until the asvent of ereaders and ebooks. It's just too easy to buy books now. 7y
rwmg I use challenges as a tool to help me pick the next book but skip that month's challenges if I don't have anything suitable in the books I already have. I think you have to resign yourself to the fact you're not going to be able to read all the books you want. A friend who is a year older than i am calculated that realistically he can only expect to read about another 3,000 books in his lifetime. 7y
Emilymdxn @Pamwurtzler I need to do that too! 7y
Emilymdxn @knittedgnome ooh that‘s really interesting! My library doesn‘t do much in the way of Ebooks but I hope they do soon! 7y
Emilymdxn @Chellebearss I do the same thing! I very rarely do challenges cause I‘ve maintained my childhood aversion to being told what to read lol 7y
Emilymdxn @rwng I don‘t do much in the way of challenges either unless it happens to match something I was already going to read. Maybe I‘m struggling a bit to let go of my childhood dream of reading every book ever written 😕 7y
Chellebearss @Emilymdxn I am usually the same but this year I did the Pop Sugar to try and force myself to read out of my comfort genre a bit. It worked because the challenges are pretty open and a lot of different books can work for each prompt. 7y
KateFulfordAuthor Is this the wrong time to add another to your tbr pile? If you like laugh-out-loud dialogue, a fast & twisty plot + strong female narrative, may I recommend my debut novel to you? Links to reviews and more are in my bio. With thanks, Kate. 7y

This book is a fun answer to the question: how could humanity plausibly colonize another star system? It is an enjoyable read and goes very quickly. The last 80 pages were especially interesting.

At times, I found some of the characters a bit dull, but the overall plot - combined with the fact that we're dealing with generations of the same family - was compelling enough to make up for those few moments.
