I know but I tried to read / listen to this book / audiobook twice.
Never made it.
I recall I missed a plot and that I didn‘t have much sympathy for Phil (the protagonist). But now that I read there‘s been a film made of this book, I am tempted to watch it and maybe, but really just maybe, to give the audiobook another try.

Anybody who has read the book�

Ich gebe auf. Ich finde die Geschichte bisher nicht sonderlich interessant und, dass sie nicht weiß, was sie sein will. Als Coming-of-Age-Geschichte komme ich mit ihr nicht zurecht. Zu viele Zeitsprünge, zu wenig roter Faden. Besonders Phil finde ich nicht jugendlich, sondern altklug. Alle Charaktere wirken so arrogant. Ein Effekt, der durch Rufus Beck noch verstärkt wird. Harry Potter soll er so toll gelesen haben, hier klingt er nur versnobt.

Beim Hören des Hörbuchs – das ich übrigens allein wegen Rufus Beck entliehen habe – werde ich das Gefühl nicht los, dass ich vor Jahren das Buch schon einmal zu lesen versucht, aber abgebrochen habe.

Morgen bekommt das Hörbuch noch eine Chance, aber es könnte sein, dass ihm das gleiche Schicksal bevorsteht. Die Geschichte fängt interessant an, lässt aber dann stark nach, weil nichts eine Handlung auch nur andeutet.

Irgendwie seltsam.
