It Never, Ever Snows in Florida
It Never, Ever Snows in Florida | Amy Sweezey
2 posts | 2 read | 3 to read
AJ lives in Florida where it never, ever snows. He dreams of a day when he can build a snowman, or wear warm boots in the winter like other kids. AJ soon learns he can't say "never" when it comes to weather. Just because he hasn't seen any, doesn't mean it never snows in Florida.

It Never, Ever Snows in Florida by Amy Sweezey is a science fiction picture book I will use for a read aloud in my classroom. This is a story about AJ and how he wants nothing more than to build a snowman but he lives and Florida and believes that it never snows in Florida. How ever has it ever snowed in Florida? This will be perfect to use before a lesson about climate especially focusing on Flordia‘s climate.

ChristinB I will utlize UDL 6.1 guide appropriate goal settings. As well as ESOL strategy 12 preview and review as I will use the story as a preview and as a review as well. This website shows you how to make snow so I can make it snow for my students http://www.educationworld.com/a_lesson/showbiz_science/showbiz_science025.shtml #UCFLAE3414F17 7y
DominiqueL This is really cool! All the students could make text-to-self connections about it snowing in Florida, and you could even ask the students who all has been in snow and have them give their personal accounts of the climate and weather difference here in Florida to where they were in snow. 7y
laurie_jayy Hey! This is a great way to talk about climate. Like Dominique said above, all students could make text-to-self connections because indeed it never snows in the sunshine state #thanksmothernature 🙄 I‘m going to add this to my booklist because I totally want to read it :) 7y

It Never, Ever Snows in Florida is a very cute childs‘ picture book written a more local author, Amy Sweezey and illustrated by Ricardo Rodriguez. The book follows a little boy named A.J. and how his mom explains to him that in Florida, it is always hot and never snows! But at the end, the book contradicts the title because A.J.‘s mom takes him to the library where he learns that it has technically snowed in Florida a few times.

MarinaForsythe I would use this book as a RA. UDL strategy 3.1 Activate or supply background knowledge and EL strategy 30. encourage the use of diagrams and drawings as aids to identify concepts and seeing relationships. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W6osZ4ZnHBk is a link to the author reading her book aloud #ucflae3414f17 7y
elifkelly This book looks like it would be really relevant for students here in Florida, but I haven‘t seen it in any classes I‘ve been. Hopefully more students will be able to read this book and relate! 7y
