After writing to her grandmother of her concerns about natural disasters, pollution, and other bad things impacting the planet, Kiran is invited to visit her grandmother for a week to learn about a little bog and how she can take care of it. During the week, Kiran keeps a diary full of poems about what she sees and learns. This P book has won the ASPCA Henry Bergh award and can be utilized as a RA when teaching nature/poetry. #ucflae3414f17
cheyennewilliams http://www.readwritethink.org/resources/resource-print.html?id=31110 This link will take you to a lesson plan for helping students create poems based off of their observations during nature walks. This book would be perfect to read aloud to students before having them create their own eco-diaries based off of their observations during a class nature walk. 7y
cheyennewilliams UDL strategy 7.2: optimize relevance, value, and authenticity. Teachers can relate this book to the students own life/observations/experiences by having them create their own poems about the environment around them. While taking students on a nature walk, have them take notes about what they observe using their 5 senses. (edited) 7y
cheyennewilliams EL strategy 9: teach note-taking strategies: t-lists, time lines, etc. Make sure to teach students how to take two-column notes, using one column to list the sense being used and using another column to list what is being observed with each sense. This can be done for the reading and for the nature walk. 7y
