Bar Balto
Bar Balto | Faïza Guène
1 post | 1 read
'Bar Balto' is a whodunit set in a dead end town near Paris. Joel, the very unpopular owner of the only bar in town, has been murdered. When he is found dead in his flat, naked, covered with multiple stab wounds and surrounded by rivers of blood, it's not so much a question of who killed him but who didn't kill him."

Mehso-so

This is on the pick/so-so border for me. It was unique and well-done, but not my thing. The owner of a neighbourhood bar in the Paris suburbs has been murdered. Through the monologues the suspects give to the police, & the voice of the corpse himself, we hear of their lives and that day.

Towards the end, I started to feel for some of the unlikeliest characters - I'd look out for future books by Guène - think she might have more up her sleeve!. ?

rockpools The translator specialises in urban slang; at times the style felt a bit forced though.
