Bob Honey Who Just Do Stuff
Bob Honey Who Just Do Stuff: A Novel | Sean Penn
3 posts | 5 read | 1 reading | 2 to read
“An almost literally up-to-the-minute fever dream of a novel.” —Bill Maher From legendary actor and activist Sean Penn comes a scorching, darkly funny novella about Bob Honey—a modern American man, entrepreneur, and part-time assassin. He’s just a guy trying to make it through each day while grappling with loneliness, alienation, violence—uncertain of his place in a culture that considers branding more important than being. Bob Honey has a hard time connecting with other people. He dreams he is sleeping with his ex-wife every night, and imagines waking up unhappy next to her every morning. Advertising, entertainment, and commerce rule his days; he’s sick of being marketed to every moment, but is unable to pry himself away from the constant feed. A paragon of American entrepreneurialism, Bob sells septic tanks to Jehovah’s Witnesses and arranges colorful pyrotechnic displays for foreign dictators. He’s also a part-time assassin for an off-the-books program run by the CIA that targets the elderly, the infirm, and others who drain this consumption-driven society of its resources. When a nosy journalist starts asking questions, Bob can’t decide if it’s a chance to form some sort of new friendship or if it’s the beginning of the end for him. With treason on everyone’s lips, terrorism in everyone’s sights, and American political life racing to ever-lower standards, Bob decides it’s time to make a change. If he doesn’t get killed by his mysterious controllers or exposed in the rapacious media first. Perfect for fans of books by Chuck Palahniuk and Hunter S. Thompson, Bob Honey Who Just Do Stuff is a provocative, biting, timely novella that marks the publishing debut of one of America’s most acclaimed artists.

So apparently Sean Penn wrote a novel ? (not a very good one), and it ends with a 3 page poem "tackling" the #metoo movement.? Because I really want to hear about sexual assault from the guy who beat up Madonna. ?
This article is from themarysue.com where you can read an excerpt of his verse. ? It would be funny if the while enterprise wasn't so offensive.

Eggs Consider the source...he goes to great lengths for attention 7y
ofbooksandme I also read that the novel has something like 100 pages. So, not only misogynistic but also lazy. 7y
laurieluna I read the extracts. What the actual? And that poem?!?! 😠 I think I'll be passing this one by... 7y

laurieluna And the litsy book profile compares it to chuck palanuk and hunter s thompson. No. It is nothing like them. 😑 7y
tjwill Hm. This looks... 😖🙄 7y
TheLudicReader Did anyone else see his super awkward interview with Stephen Colbert? Won't be adding this to my tbr list. 7y
RidgewayGirl The passages pulled from the novel makes it seem as though someone gave Penn a thesaurus, but not a dictionary. 7y
Billypar I heard a story about this and it sounded awful. Just read the excerpts and it's actually far more awful than I was even imagining 😕 7y
merelybookish @Eggs True. There was a time when I thought he was a good actor but his other exploits have overshadowed that. 7y
readordierachel Ughhhhhh 7y
merelybookish @ofbooksandme It's so bad! That anyone agreed to publish it. Meanwhile someone with talent... 7y
merelybookish @TheLudicReader I didn't see it but read that it was awkward. 7y
