Sea Girl
Sea Girl: Feminist Folktales from Around the World | Ethel Johnston Phelps
1 post | 3 read | 8 to read
The feminist folktales in Sea Girl upend any notion that women are doomed to be sentimental, meek, or submissive. The heroines in these classic tales lead the reader through monstrous rivers and ogres' nests, all the while outsmarting desperate sharks and hungry tigers. They courageously save families and villages, and they always choose their own fate.

Pickpick

Book 3 of the feminist folktales books from Feminist Press, these tales are retellings of strong women in folklore from all over the world. I picked this volume to read from #hoopla because it has my favorite folktale of all time (East of the Sun and West of the Moon) but I also really loved Gawain and the Lady Ragnell. My only bone to pick is that I find the illustrations unappealing, and would otherwise but these for my friend's baby shower.
