This is mostly operation stories and what it was like to go through them. The amazing thing is he invented many of the procedures we have today in heart surgery, yet isn't boasting about that. I point that out because if you read Goodread reviews, the main critiques are- this/he is old, he comes off arrogantly, and the stories are technical. My thoughts on that are- that may be true, but without this man we would not have some heart breakthroughs.
NerdyRev It isn't as insightful as When Breath Becomes Air, but his focus is how he had to think differently and had to invent things on the fly to save lives. The Westaby valve is named for him because he invented it. He can be arrogant if he wants to :-) Although, the book didn't come off like that to me. 7y
