Interesting & often funny story but somewhat lazy writing. It opens with the narrator explaining how he‘ll tell the story, revealing writerly tricks, & closes with a summation of the characters‘ closing situation. One truth though: the characters‘ character never changes though their situation does. Having read 4 Trollope novels I can say that is a common aspect of hos stories. I must recommend both Orley Farm and The Way We Live Now over this.
