The Summer That Made Us
The Summer That Made Us | Robyn Carr
14 posts | 7 read | 5 to read
Mothers and daughters, sisters and cousins, they lived for summers at the lake house until a tragic accident changed everything. The Summer That Made Us is an unforgettable story about a family learning to accept the past, to forgive and to love each other again. That was then... For the Hempsteads, summers were idyllic. Two sisters who married two brothers and had three daughters each, the women would escape the city the moment school was out to gather at the family house on Lake Waseka. The lake was a magical place, a haven where they were happy and carefree. All of their problems drifted away as the days passed in sun-dappled contentment. Until the summer that changed everything. This is now... After an accidental drowning turned the lake house into a site of tragedy and grief, it was closed up. For good. Torn apart, none of the Hempstead women speak of what happened that summer, and relationships between them are uneasy at best, hurtful at worst. But in the face of new challenges, one woman is determined to draw her family together again, and the only way that can happen is to return to the lake and face the truth. Robyn Carr has crafted a beautifully woven story about the complexities of family dynamics and the value of strong female relationships.

Finally finished this this morning. It was a slow read for me but as usual, I enjoyed it. Her books never fail to touch me and I was choked up at the end, I‘ll admit it. #imnotcryingyourecrying

A rainy day on vacation is better then a sunny day at work...right? This beach read was full of family drama. In fact so full that I had a hard time keeping the family straight. This family is large and everyone has their own issues. Having said that, Robyn Carr remains an author that I can count on for a good read!

I have it 4 Stars but really was more like 3.5. It was good, a little slow and maybe too many things going on. Just a little bit flat.

Ugh. I‘ve been sewing so much lately for charity quilts that I‘ve been neglecting my books and now this is due back in 2 days and I‘m not sure I‘ll make it 😩

[DELETED] 206653737 Oh no, hate it when that happens, hope you can get it finished. 7y
CoverToCoverGirl Love the bookmark!😁 7y
Texreader Oh please post pics of quilts!!! 7y

Bostonmomx2 @Texreader I‘m not doing full quilts, just blocks and then I send them to be finished. Some have gone to a gal coordinating efforts for hurricane Harvey victims and then more recently another group is coordinating for the victims families of the Vegas shooting. 7y
Texreader @Bostonmomx2 I want to do blocks but using embroidery. I have no idea how to finish a quilt. So I‘ll likely never make a quilt as much as I love them. 😒 So wonderful that you are doing this!! 7y
Bostonmomx2 @Texreader it‘s such an expensive hobby so I‘m happy just doing blocks and sending them off. I‘ve done about 6 tops worth I think for Harvey (48 blocks times 6) and now I‘m working on Vegas. I enjoy it. 7y

Grabbed these at the library today. Baker Towers was in the sale rack for a buck so I bought that. I‘m not a big Hilderbrand fan but decided to give her one last try. The bottom left is a self help (?) Book that I decided to try. Finally starting a journey I‘m not really ready for but it‘s become necessary.

So I've been waiting for this ebook from the library for literally months. I finally got the email it was ready. What I didn't know is I only had 4 days to claim it and I forgot 😩 now I'm back to the end of the line....#28. I'm so sad 😥

CocoReads I love Robyn Carr! I'm sad for you. But now I'd better go put myself on the list for this as well.... 7y
