Ran out of space on my review. Great book that would meet quite a few squares but I'm using it for #somethingwithlawormedicine
Examines the impact of factory farming and overuse of antibiotics via the chicken industry.

Deep dive into the impact of industrialized meat system via the chicken. Early in the 20th century chicken was rarely eaten usually on Sunday and only sold whole, hard to believe when you consider all the different ways it's sold today and it's soon to be the most eaten meat in the world. This looks at the history and the use and impact of antibiotic overuse in production and how it's creating resistant bacteria that is a massive health issue.

readordierachel Sounds interesting and disturbing 6y
Reggie Yikes!!! Sounds read worthy, though. 6y
CouronneDhiver Maybe I‘ll have a look at this one when I start my Easter fast - I usually opt for gluten-free and vegetarian for that season 6y
mreads @readordierachel @Reggie The food industry is pretty scary between this book and one I read in December about processed foods we need real change. 6y
mreads @CouronneDhiver The unfortunate thing about the impact on drug resistance is that you could be vegan and eating organic but if you get an infection that would normally be treated with antibiotics there's a possibility that the antibiotics we have just won't work. 6y

#TBRtemptation post 6! #BEA17 edition! Expected to be released September 12th. Health journalist & Nat Geo contributor, McKenna, documents how antibiotics transformed chicken from local delicacy to industrial commodity, uncovering ways to make our meat safer. She shows the process from the farm to the dinner table. It might sound dull and tedious, but this investigation provides major insights into Big Ag and Big Food. #blameLitsy #blameMrBook 😎

Dolly From what I understand most antibiotics are used in agriculture as preventatives in filthy conditions. This practice turns my stomach & frustrates me. 😰😖 8y
afoxamongstars One of my friends is dealing with some hormonal issues (she's 22), and after talking to her doctor, he said that, given her circumstances, it's probably due to her becoming vegetarian. Apparently, after eating meat shot up with antibiotics and hormones (and stopping), our bodies don't know how to adjust hormone levels on their own- and it can take up to 10 years.... which is insane.... 8y
