Pickpick

Today was a rainy day so I finished this book. While this is a definite pick for me, I wouldn‘t necessarily recommend reading this cover to cover as I did. If you have an interest in the subject I‘d recommend using it as a reference for whatever bit you are interested in or returning to the book in smaller lessons. There is A LOT of info here and it could be overwhelming but it is great to snag when you want to look something up.

scowler1 Considering how little I know, this might have to go on my shelf. 6y
Ericalambbrown @scowler1 That‘s precisely why I snagged it when I found it at our Friends of the Library sale! I was a great jumping off place for me and I‘ll be looking into some of the author‘s cited texts for sure. 6y

I love buying used books. You never know what you‘ll find. Someone had been using this plastic card from a Vietnamese restaurant in Paris as bookmark when reading this book. The other side of the card is a 1989 calendar. Wish I could hear the story of how that came about. 😊❤️💕

Wellreadhead That‘s pretty cool! 😎 6y
Ericalambbrown @Wellreadhead Right? I love finding things in old books 6y
scowler1 Found a Chinese takeaway menu in an old book; it was my book! Brought back a decades old memory of the food we used to eat there. 6y
Ericalambbrown @scowler1 I love finding memories when I return to a book! 6y

Mehso-so

This was a long read that took me even longer than I could possibly fathomed. Very informative but at times a little rambling. The author sometimes seems to extend itself in matters not that interesting at least to me. But it was still worth a read. #historyread

“A principio del siglo VII apareció un movimiento religioso en los márgenes de los grandes imperios, el de los bizantinos y el de los sasánidas, que dominaban la mitad occidental del mundo.” #firstlines
