It's bad enough that DC Courte can't concentrate on that novel she's always wanted to write. But now, she's receiving late night phone calls from someone who whispers things like, "The moon is as big as a Dali clock," and "One could walk into a tequila sunrise." She writes it off as a crazy. Since she inherited her father's newspaper, she has gotten used to this sort of thing. But this caller is beginning to put a strain even on her sense of humor.DC is also receiving weird poems that have been printed to look like birds in flight. They are dedicated to the recently drowned. The problem is that she is receiving the poems before anyone finds the bodies.A figure dressed like a wanna-be cowboy is stalking the streets of Indigo Falls, offering people a, "Fine night," before dragging them off to the river. The list of suspects is disturbing. Could it be the mad ex-boyfriend recently released from prison and eager to finish old business? Maybe it's the veteran suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder who carries a beast around in his head. Or maybe it's the town drunk/bouncer who is convinced that the crows have begun to demand where has he hidden his wife's body?Whoever the stranger dressed in black is, he or she insists that DC needs to give up this newspaper nonsense and concentrate on the biography of a serial killer. If she continues to refuse, will hers be the next body pulled from the river?
I'm thinking there is a reason that nobody else seems to own this book. It wasn't really that bad but as a mystery it wasn't as cohesive as I would have liked. Plus most of the characters seemed very unhappy and hard to root for.
