A Negro and an Ofay
A Negro and an Ofay | Danny Gardner
5 posts | 4 read | 10 to read
Set in Chicago in 1952, and built upon true crime history, this hardboiled thriller is the first of a series depicting a mixed-race detective battling his way through postwar America. As black and white as America itself, Elliot Caprice is sure to stick with fans of crime fiction, as well as works that deal with race and class in modern society.

A strong voice, a solid plot, and complex characters. One of the best current crime fiction books I've read in a while, the POV here is about something, not just out for a kicks and bullets.

🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟. I have to give it the five stars because the writing was an excellent departure from the style I have been reading of late. With some Mississippi slang thrown, which to be honest threw me at first, the writing incorporated slang and proper English. I can see this becoming a different type of detective series. Gardner makes Elliot to become a friend I want to read more of.
