There are all sorts of reasons why I should like this MG story about a shape-shifting sea creature, the woman who controls it, & a mystery in a small Canadian townā€”the setting is fantastic, the main character Beet MacNeill is wonderful, & the writing is quite good. And yet...it didn‘t quite come together for me. Along those lines I should note there is a bit of a disconnect between the cover & the ages of the characters. Good but I wanted more.
