Nancy Drew 41: The Clue of the Whistling Bagpipes
Nancy Drew 41: The Clue of the Whistling Bagpipes | Carolyn Keene
4 posts | 13 read | 1 to read
Warnings not to go to Scotland cant stop Nancy Drew from setting out on a thrill-packed mystery adventure. Undaunted by the vicious threats, the young detective with her father and her two close friends goes to visit her great-grandmother at an imposing estate in the Scottish Highlands, and to solve the mystery of a missing family heirloom. And there is another mystery to be solved: the fate of flocks of stolen sheep. Baffling clues challenge Nancys powers of deduction: a note written in the ancient Gaelic language, a deserted houseboat on Loch Lomond, a sinister red-bearded stranger in Edinburgh, eerie whistling noises in the Highlands. Startling discoveries in an old castle and in the ruins of a prehistoric fortress, lead Nancy closer to finding the solution to both mysteries.

Pickpick

Nancy goes international, matching wits against a gang of smugglers/sheep thieves/thieves in general/forgers/who knows what else, and naturally coming out on top. Nancy and the girls travel to Scotland and meet her great-grandmother (naturally, a Scottish Lady) along with a new friend.

Reading aloud gave me a chance to work on my accents. Apologies to all the Scottish people for mangling your lovely tones!

mabell @rubyslippersreads So much detail in these old covers! When I got this one out, I thought - I don't really remember this story. Sigh, guess I'll have to reread it 😀 7y

Unfortunately our library is very dark since it relies heavily on natural light in the atrium.

@Lizpixie This one is especially for you. I haven't found any super hot men in kilts yet (or at least I didn't catch them on camera) but I thought these here were a good start - specimen a) the more sophisticated gentleman, specimen b) the younger Ron Weasley lookalike. Disclaimer: I would like to apologize to anyone who might feel offended by this objectification of poor Scottish men. None of them were harmed in the making of this collage. 😉

Moray_Reads You're just around the corner from where I work 😊 8y
scripturient @Moray_Reads Oh wow! Where do you work? 😃 Well, these are not from today but we plan on going back to Edinburgh on Monday. 😊 8y
Moray_Reads I work in the Special Collections department at the National Library of Scotland. Not five minutes from Hunter Square! 8y
