This novel may or may not be interesting; I haven't yet taken the time to read the description in any detail: what I am most excited to find out about is that there's such a thing as the Historical Novel Society! Were you already aware of this, @LeahBergen ?

Donna_sBookMinute I'm gonna read this. I enjoy reading historical fiction. I also have an interest in antique shops and would love to read a novel that includes one in the storyline. There's also a sequel entitled, "The Last Letter." 8y

shawnmooney @Donna_sBookMinute Great! I recently read a book that, while it was not central to the story, featured a scene set in an antique shop in London that was so brilliant and memorable that I can remember that scene vividly several months later:

Lindy @shawnmooney One of the panels at the Vancouver Writers Fest last year featured 4 authors whose most recent books have been described as historical fiction. All 4 vehemently denied that categorization, surprising me, because I hadn't realized the stigma was strong against this genre. 8y

shawnmooney @Lindy That's so interesting! I haven't read enough historical fiction, but I do have a sense that some of it is probably really crappy, and the better writers don't want to be associated with it. I want to read more widely and find out more about this. 8y

LeahBergen @Lindy I don't quite know what to make of this. In one way it seems like a bit of the "genre snobbery" that we hear about and in another, well, I can see where these authors are coming from. "Historical Fiction" really IS almost a sweeping generalization of a category, right? 8y
