What happens to two immensely musically gifted biracial brothers and their younger sister, and their parents against the backdrop of 20th century America. Racism, identity, privilege, love, anguish, redemption. Lyrical and beautiful descriptions of what it is like to sing. At the end a twist of time. Last book read December 2022.

I started this book on the recommendation of a friend, and I‘m already pulled in by the beauty of the writing. And any book that involves music-especially singing-has my attention.

Full review at https://chronicbibliophilia.wordpress.com/2017/08/03/the-time-of-our-singing-by-.... Powers has written a story about identity – racial, familial, personal. The Stroms – particularly Jonah and Joseph – are on a mythic quest to discover who they are and to forge an identity all their own.

Richard Powers‘ 2003 novel is epic and exquisite. It is haunting, masterful music.
