The Lost Continent
The Lost Continent | EDGAR RICE BURROUGHS
7 posts | 3 read | 2 to read
The Lost Continent is one of the least-known of Burroughs' thrilling science-fiction tales. In the year 2137, civilization has been in decline for nearly two centuries, and war-torn Europe is but a distant memory to the inhabitants of the isolated United States. But an American adventurer rediscovers the Old World, which has become a strange and savage land.

Pickpick

I'm a huge Edgar Rice Burrough's fan, but this is the first time I read this particular story. To me it feels like a first draft for John Carter of Mars. I love his premisses despite their similarity.

"Very well, then, let us live while we live, and enjoy to the fullest whatever of adventure or pleasure each new day brings, since any day may be our last, and we shall be dead for a considerable while."

I've been looking for a nice motivational quote. Who knew I'd find it in an Edgar Rice Burrough's book? And with a bit of humor too!

Mehso-so

Burroughs goes from Cornwall to Beijing in 120 pages in this long short story set in 2137--your typical Imperialist adventure. However, Burroughs great gift is writing a compelling tale that can be easily visualized. A quirky piece of literary history
