Bats
Bats: From Evolution to Conservation | John D. Altringham
1 post | 1 read
Bats are highly charismatic and popular animals that are not only fascinating in their own right, but illustrate most of the topical and important concepts and issues in mammalian biology. This book covers the key aspects of bat biology, including evolution, flight, echolocation, hibernation, reproduction, feeding and roosting ecology, social behaviour, migration, population and community ecology, biogeography, and conservation. This new edition is fully updated and greatly expanded throughout, maintaining the depth and scientific rigour of the first edition. It is written with infectious enthusiasm, and beautifully illustrated with drawings and colour photographs.

I love #bats! And there was an art show in Philly tonight benefiting a local bat conservation group. The wood cutout and enamel pin were from the show. The other picture is my shelf of random bat items (but it's only about half of the bat items decorating my apartment) (not including Batman stuff) (also, I honestly can't remember which I was obsessed with first, bats or Batman, but they both continue strong)

Bookwomble I love bats, too 😊 We have a family of pipistrelles roosting nearby, so these summer months in the northern hemisphere agree great for sitting in the dusk to watch them swooping around 🦇❤ 6y
TieDyeDude That's great! I built a bat house with my dad when I was younger. We had a handful of residents for a couple years. 6y
