Happiness by Design
Happiness by Design: Finding Pleasure and Purpose in Everyday Life | Paul Dolan
1 post | 7 read | 6 to read
As a Professor of Behavioural Science at the London School of Economics, Dolan conducts original research into the measurement of happiness and its causes and consequences, including the effects of our behaviour. Here he creates a new outlook on the pursuit of happiness - it's not just how you feel, it's how you act. Happiness by Design shows that being happier requires us to actively re-design our immediate environment. Enough has been written on how to think happy. Happiness by Design is about how to behave happy and how to incorporate the most recent research findings into our everyday lives.

Pickpick

This is the kind of book I can listen to on audio - I can still get a lot of the meaning even if I tune out occasionally! But an interesting listen and full of practical strategies to improve happiness through both purposeful and pleasurable activities.

Joanne1 One for me by the sounds of it. 7y
Fernoppy @Joanne1 it was well read but aside from that, it was about how we engineer our happiness by using the way our brains naturally work as humans. Taking advantage of habits and routine and also of friends' abilities to predict outcomes of our decisions - and focusing on outcomes rather than the decision itself, with the congruent peak/trough affect of decision making. Easy to follow and some practical tips. 7y
