Cockpit Confidential
Cockpit Confidential: Everything You Need to Know About Air Travel: Questions, Answers, and Reflections | Patrick Smith
4 posts | 4 read | 3 to read
A New York Times bestseller For millions of people, travel by air is a confounding, uncomfortable, and even fearful experience. Patrick Smith, airline pilot and author of the web's popular Ask the Pilot feature, separates the fact from fallacy and tells you everything you need to know... How planes fly, and a revealing look at the men and women who fly them Straight talk on turbulence, pilot training, and safety The real story on congestion, delays, and the dysfunction of the modern airport The myths and misconceptions of cabin air and cockpit automation Terrorism in perspective, and a provocative look at security Airfares, seating woes, and the pitfalls of airline customer service The colors and cultures of the airlines we love to hate Cockpit Confidential covers not only the nuts and bolts of flying, but also the grand theater of air travel, from airport architecture to inflight service to the excitement of travel abroad. It's a thoughtful, funny, at times deeply personal look into the strange and misunderstood world of commercial flying. It's the ideal book for frequent flyers, nervous passengers, and global travelers. Refreshed and vastly expanded from the original Ask the Pilot, with approximately 75 percent new material.

Day 6 - #Airplane #LetsTravelJuly

My daughter had to go to Ocala Florida for veterinary acupuncture courses but she has a fear of flying especially as we had to take her six month-old son with us. She read the tagged book and said it comforted some of her fears. So if you have a fear of flying, why not read one of these books and see if they can help you too!

kamoorephoto I did a fear of flying course quite a few years ago after a bout of fear suddenly gripped me after someone close to me died suddenly (not plane-related). It TOTALLY cured me. Best money I ever spent. It was more than just a book though; audio-courses, conversations with a pilot, steps to take for that first flight. CONFRONT YOUR FEARS!!! 🛫👍🏼 5y

EadieB @kamoorephoto She had read where a baby had died from bad turbulence so that had really upset her. Don't think she has gotten over her fear because we took the train to Florida the next time she had to go. 5y
rabbitprincess I second the recommendation of Cockpit Confidential! The author also posts regularly on his website, Ask the Pilot. 5y

I thoroughly enjoyed this book and recommend it if you're interested in aviation from the perspective of a pilot. He gives realistic answers to common questions about planes and flying, and he does it with humour.

Reading while waiting for the BF to clear off the car -- a highly appropriate topic given the weather. 🌨
