Better than I expected. This is a military Sci-Fi story with a touch of space opera on the side. The pacing was good and I enjoyed the plot. The best thing about the book is the story is believable. I felt a connection to the MC. A must read for Sci-Fi fans especially military Sci-Fi fans. 4⭐
Another story that was the basis for another "Love Death + Robots" episode called "Shape-Shifters", one of my favorite episodes.
The story is available on Kindle but not in Litsy's database.
"On the Use of Shape-Shifters in Warfare" - A Dog Soldiers short story by Marko Kloos
I'm a die-hard fan of military SciFi. From Starship Troopers and Forever War to Scalzi's Old Man's War, I've read a ton. Terms of Enlistment has at least a few things for anyone who loves the aforementioned books. One of the things author Marko Kloos does extremely well in Terms of Enlistment is to capture the essence of military slang, culture and training. The world felt very real to me and it really helps this book become very emersive.
I just finished this one, I‘ve gone ahead and gotten book 2. I liked it a lot, it‘s a lot like Old Mans War by Scalzi, or Expeditionary Force by Craig Alanson. However I gotta say, there is no attachment to the lead character, or any of the additional characters in anyway. Which feels a bit off. John Perry from Scalzi, Joe Bishop, and Skippy from Alanson I‘m very attached to. Still the audiobook was a lot of fun. Looking forward to book 2.
I was talking with my wife @JoeStalksBeck who is super active on Litsy telling her I don‘t post a lot because I listen to a lot of the same books over and over again. Like “You, Hidden bodies Expeditionary Force books.” All those I listed are so great but through this discussion we got online and looked up a new series for me to start. And here it is! This one looks like a great military sci-fi book. I will let you all know how it is!
