This picture book tells the story of Bass Reeves, a man who was born a slave and became a sheriff in the Wild West before Oklahoma became a state. Reeves really seems like an incredible man; my issue with this book was how flippantly Native Americans were referred to, as well as murder/death - “he ONLY killed 14 people!“ 😳 This just didn't seem like appropriate content for a picture book. What I enjoyed the most were the illustrations.

A great children's book detailing the life of the absolute badass Bass Reeves. A review I read said something about it putting Reeves on a pedestal, but when there are so many children's books praising problematic figures like Christopher Columbus and Alexander Graham Bell, I have no qualms turning this man into a legendary figure.

I had never heard of Bass Reeves so I enjoyed this #PictureBook #biography . I do think it suffers from putting its subject on a pedestal, but I still enjoyed it.

I liked how the text of this book was in a western style. The illustrations are also very simple and not too overwhelming. I think children would really enjoy this book and its style.

I liked this story based on the life of Bass Reeves. He was a Deputy US Marshal in the Old West. I have never really been into the Old West stories, but I enjoyed this one.

I honestly had never hear of this man before, so it was cool to see a book written about him intended for kids.

This is an interesting book for kids because it focuses on one of the most feared and respected lawman in history, and he was African American. This is a story about a man who lived in the 1800s and that can be fun for kids to explore.

I am so grateful that today we have books like this one - they just didn't seem to exist when I was a kid. Bass Reeves was no joke. #blackhistory #riotgrams

TieDyeDude I read the graphic novel Talented Tenth about Bessie Stringfield at the library, saw there was one about Bass Reeves, but our system doesn't have it 😔 I'll have to search for this one 8y

Local author siting! She's also a former librarian. Super friendly and it's been great picking her brain on how to improve the state of our libraries.#librarylife
