Finally, it's worth noting that Benny's place in the Doctor Who universe is now canon after she appeared in the official Twelfth Doctor novel Big Bang Generation. Apparently the book was intended to feature River Song, but Steven Moffat had other plans for her (see: The Husbands of River Song) and the Doctor's other archeologist friend was used instead. So despite never appearing on screen, Bernice Summerfield has featured in a licensed BBC story!
GrilledCheeseSamurai I am a huge fan of the 2005 reboot series. I admit, I haven't really watched the classics, but regardless of that I consider myself pretty well versed in Who lore. I know some would scoff at me and call me a newb. I'm okay with that. I've never read anything Who related though. Got any suggestions on some favorites or best places to start? 7y
Anton @GrilledCheeseSamurai Human Nature is widely considered the best Doctor Who book, and it's different enough from the Tenth Doctor episode that's based on it to feel like a very different story. Harvest Of Time is a great Third Doctor book that really captures the 1970s UNIT era. I also enjoyed the Eighth Doctor books EarthWorld and Fear Itself. The first three of those were all published or reissued recently, so they should be easy to find. 7y
