The title brings double meanings, and problems, for 12 year old Michael Arroyo as he and his Bronx little league team strive to advance to the World Series. His phenomenal pitching causes others to doubt his age. But attaining his only proof-a birth certificate-means outsiders poking in to his life and home he shares with an older brother. The pressure to keep secrets poses even more conflicts for the main character.
I liked this book, Heat, by Mike Lupica, because it had a unique story and it really pulled you in.
Glad that Trent Zimmerman of LOST IN THE SUN got me to pick up the book and keep reading when the audio had me thinking about quitting. Michael's story has very real, very scary potential endings, but Lupica balances them with comic relief (my favorite probably being Manny!). A great read! ⚾🍔️🍟 (
I started HEAT on audio earlier this week before I started LOST IN THE SUN, but I couldn't get into the reader. HEAT makes an appearance in LOST IN THE SUN as Trent sits on the bleachers and reads rather than participate in PE. I took that as a sign to keep going (although I'm switching to reading the book rather than listening). ⚾️
