This lived up to its blurb! The writing is slow and lyrical, we are never in full possession of the facts as it is revealed in little pieces and this shapes how the different characters relate to each other, their ethics, their private pain. I've never enjoyed parental figures more - Evie is adopted by Paul & Amy and they are just gorgeous! As is Uncle Ben! And her school friends! ❤️ tbh, I'm gonna need to buy this one as well - I enjoyed it so.

I grin. 'Really? So we can get cheesecake and chips too and you'll explain to Amy why I can't eat lunch and haven't finished my French?'
Paul takes a step back, widening his eyes and forces a large gulp. 'Couldn't I just buy you a Ferrari?'

She's sad sometimes, but that's about all I know for sure: that she understands deep, dull, constant pain. Sometimes there's that weariness in her: the knowledge that misery can just go on and on and on, getting worse and worse, and somehow you keep bending under it until you're all bowed over but you never splinter and break quite enough to escape the weight.

The dragon sits on my hand, bluish in the moonlight, while the stereo whirrs softly in the background and the wizard Howl surrenders his heart to a falling star to give it new life as a fire demon. I would give my heart to the dragon to bring it life. I'd give it gladly to be tied so tightly to something so wonderful.

Reading on the 🚂, rather looking forward to putting my pjs on, making a cup of tea and going to sleep! It's been a long day!

But I did stay. And eventually I did go back inside. And I never quite forgave myself for that.

I feel that this is going to be one of those slow reveal books 🤔
