This came up tonight in discussion in the Tolkien Society of KC meeting, and I had never connected the pieces before. In The Return of the King, the huge battering ram brought to the gates of Minas Tirith is named after the weapon used by Morgoth in his fight against Fingolfin in The Silmarillion.
