52 Weeks a Party of One | Bianca Pensy Aba

Mehso-so

For Aisha, the protagonist featured in 52 Weeks A Party of One, being jilted by a first-time true love is merely the mountain. Losing said love to a long-term best friend is the iceberg. An exposition-heavy account of the 30-year transition, this portrayal of a child-free, newly single woman uses internal monologue in lieu of sensory details to demonstrate solitude as anti-social behavior.

Lagos Noir | Chris Abani
Pickpick

The contemporary setting provides a colorful backdrop, and engaged readers will not miss covert references to job insecurity, gender bias, and how advertent cultural/religious restraints impose barriers that clash with the pace of emerging economies. A must read!!

Monument Eternal | Alice Coltrane
post image
Mehso-so

This is a reprint of the 1977 classic by composer/musician Alice Coltrane. It suggests that certain aspects of life cannot be realized without a shift in how one perceives one's relationship with God. Written from the perspective of a “seeker,” this is the first in a series and may not appeal to traditionalists or others with a less fluid or more conservative spiritual journey.

All families are dysfunctional. In consequence, the distance between truth and fiction is marked and marred by habits of discretion, and birth order.

But what happens when secrets coveted and shared by and between family, the persons worthy of trust, begin to weigh down perceptions and distort the space between truth and the context of the damage caused?
