Ann Cleeves is a must read author for me and this one did not disappoint. Detective Jimmy Perez has settle in Orkney with his partner and senior officer Willow Reeves. His idyllic life is disturbed when his oldest friend is found dead. As Jimmy and Willow investigate they find Jimmy may not have known the victim as well as he thought. Thanks to Macmillan and NetGalley for the ARC.

I actually finished this yesterday, but I‘m still gonna use it for the #ChristmasCrimeChallenge which starts today 😀

6. Snowflake: set during winter/in snow
The action starts during a storm in mid December, then it continues through the solstice and the Christmas holidays. There‘s not much snow, but it‘s definitely cold and dark and…mysterious.

Jimmy is back. And he has mellowed. Love the descriptions of Orkney and the other islands. We nearly got there just before Covid. Don‘t think we will make it now so will have to just read about it. A good story. Kept me reading. Got me thinking at the end.

MrsMalaprop I‘ve never read an Ann Cleaves. 3w
Jeg @MrsMalaprop too many books and not enough time. I enjoy her books. Been reading her for a long time. Especially love Vera. 3w

A new Jimmy Perez story? YES PLEASE!

As usual, Cleeves deliver a wonderfully intricate story full of colorful characters, this time set in the Orkney islands versus Shetland. Readers get to know a whole new landscape and set of people, steeped in folklore and emotions.

DI Jimmy Perez fans: He may have left Shetland, but he‘s still on the case. Read my full review here: https://debbybrauer.org/#the-killing-stones-jimmy-perez-and-w...

Publication is expected September 30.

Delicious mystery! I‘m actually enjoying it more than Raven Black (Shetland #1). The characters feel more familiar (despite a few contradictions). I‘m also constantly not comparing the book with the series. I have absolutely no clue who the killer might be!!

Cleeves scores another solid mystery with 'The Killing Stones.' She sets up such a sense of place in Orkney and Shetland that you swear you were there. This is a spin-off of the Shetland series. Jimmy Perez returns when he finds his good friend Archie has been murdered. The case is extremely personal and emotional for Jimmy. Full of mood and atmosphere, this is a great mystery. 4 stars.

I don‘t say this often however the book was not better than the tv show.

CarolynM I‘ve not read the books but I love the TV version. I‘m very willing to believe you. 3mo

1. Thanks for the reminder! I need to pre-order the tagged book. It‘s scheduled for publication in October, just in time for my sister‘s birthday.
2. I don‘t usually have my act together enough to pre-order, but when I do it‘s probably part of a series. #two4tuesday

TheSpineView I love giving books as gifts. Thanks for playing 5mo
