I‘ve never read the books but I know they‘re popular. I wasn‘t necessarily blown away by the art here but it suffices. If you‘re a fan of the books you‘ll likely enjoy this one.

I *did* learn something: Quarin, more traditionally QUAREEN. Pre-Islam & Islamic mythology. A djinn that can either be good or evil but the Quareen is someone‘s companion, guardian, driving you to good or evil behavior.

Day 8 #36by36 #Readathon

I didn‘t have a lot of reading time this week so I didn‘t get to reach my thirty-six hour goal. Made it to almost nineteen hours.

I got a couple more hours of reading done last night to finish Odd Thomas.

Went deep into my TBR stacks trying to make progress before the end of the year & came across this book—I think I got it for my husband?!? 🤷‍♀️ Anyway, it‘s about a school of sorcerers who protect the world from demons and three students who are just getting started. I enjoyed it, may even read more, but I‘m not sure why I thought my husband would…I must have seen a recommendation somewhere. Anyway, a quick fun read.

Picked this up on a whim yesterday, and it had me hooked.

To be fair it dragged in the third half of the book, and a lot of the events could have been summarized in a chapter or two. But, towards the end the book picked up the pace again and the very ending was extremely satisfying.

The gothic horror delivered well enough, although Italy isn't really ideal for a “scary book“ Maybe that's just me.

Doppoetry The protagonist was *extremely* relatable. At first, I didn't understand why everyone blamed her for seemingly unrelated things, like arguments between her brother, his bf, and her, even though the bf was the aggressor, but somehow she was blamed for things. But then it clicked, she was just the scapegoat of the family. 19h

If the writing wasn‘t so good, this would be a Pan. Descriptions and sentiments are wonderful, but the story is a mess of extraneous details irrelevant to the plot, too many meaningless background characters, and a useless protagonist. Confusing without being mysterious, ending did not feel earned.

BallroomsOfMars What about the missing pages from the folder! The row of hidden books! Maybe I missed all the important links — I was reading at 3am during a few sleepless nights — but it did seem like a lot of stuff got attention on the page that ended up having no follow-through or consequence. 1d

These are the first two books in the Harper Connolly series. I love this series. Harper was struck by lightning when she was a teenage, and now she can see dead people. So now her and her stepbrother travel the country trying to solve murders.

Alright I won‘t lie, I expected more based off of the Netflix show, but this book was still great. It was a slow burn classic haunting that ended in tragedy. Definitely a great spooky season read!

Kakuriyo, volume 2:
Another read from my TBR pile. It had been quite a while since I watched the anime and read the manga…so that it was refreshing to catch up with these characters again ☺️ Gotta get volume 3 next!
