Mehso-so

My adult brain couldn‘t let go of the ridiculous-ness of the premise, but it was a fun story and I learned a bit about roller derby, too. Lots of threads were left untugged that I wish had been explored. Perhaps they will be in future volumes.

We didn't vibe and it is my year of DNF. Definitely one to try with your middle grade readers that are down for a spooky little read but I just didn't want to pick this one up once I'd put it down.

4⭐ Growing up is hard. As girls age, they find different likes, and can start to stray from long held friendships. In Roller Girl, Astrid falls in love with Roller Derby. It is so geeky, but edgy at the same time. Her friend, however, is more into dance. Their friendship starts to splinter as Astrid pulls more to Roller Derby. She is not very good and does a lot of falling but she is learning to get up on her own feet and to find the courage

This book was a Newberry honor book and it deserves that honor. It is a timeless tale of friendship and growing up. It shows that growing up, and growing apart is not always a bad thing, but sometimes what is needed to broaden horizons, try new things, and become the person on the outside you feel on the insi 2y

I enjoyed when Astrid goes to apologize to Zoey and helps her calm down before the match.

Roller girl is an excellent story about a girl named Astrid who falls in love with roller skating and the roller derby to be more specific. Astrid goes through many trials throughout the book specifically with her friend Nicole. The two used to do everything together but as their interests differ they begin to drift apart.
